Ageing womaniser John Thomas (J.T.) perennially searches for his first-love in a love-em-and-leave-em fashion. His body dies in a car crash.
Magda lives in a high-tech future where Woman has evolved as the dominant species. In her society males are subservient and physically created by the females from sterile recycled parts to be used as "Playmen" although the true sexual act has been long-forgotten. This continual recycling has produced effeminate, physically perfect, yet sterile, identical hairless-males.
Magda has been genetically experimenting with the Playmen she creates for innocuous reasons.
J.T.'s mind transfers to Magda's latest creation, Playman 256.
After coming to terms with his new condition he falls in love with Magda who has no understanding of this emotion.
She also falls in love with her new creation but having never experienced love before doesn't understand this emotion.
Both Magda and J.T. unknowingly search for the same thing.
Magda is very happy with their relationship but J.T. has found his perennial search - his first love. He realises telling Magda he loves her is pointless although this is precisely how his prior conquests must have felt.
Magda, having no concept of love has only one way of terminating Playmen, by recycling them. She can always make another one.
J.T. escapes recycling but Magda, unaware of this, is left pregnant in a future society without knowledge of this long-forgotten condition.
