The solution to your wish fulfilment

"TELSTRA AND BIGPOND CONSIDER APPLE MACINTOSH COMPUTERS TO BE NOT WORTH SUPPORTING?"
-- This can be overcome!

Ziggy used an Apple Macintosh computer. He had been using it for decades and thought himself quite competent. He had had trouble with Hayes modems when he bought one for $600. He learned a lot. He went ISDN with Bigpond and had much troubles. He learned a lot. When Bogga-Bogga went ADSL he attended the inauguration and the Telsta Tech convinced him to sign up with Bigpond promising he would get a 4-port "True" Router and be able to share his two Mac machines at the same time as surfing the Net.

It did not work!

He learnt that the Alcatel 4-port modem (510) Bigpond supplied was configured as a BRIDGE so that Bigpond Techs could UNDERSTAND!!!!

To Quote: "Dear Mr Ziggy, "Thank you for your email dated 22/6/04, regarding problems configuring your Speedtouch 510 as a router on an Apple Macintosh. As you know BigPond (TM) Technical Support does not support setting up the 510 modem/router as a router on an Macintosh. The reason for this is we have absolutly no way to do this on a Macintosh. If you contact us by phone with the modem connected to a PC we will be able to configure it for you, then you will be able to connect it to the Macintosh as a router.

So, Ziggy contacted Alcatel: To quote: "I'm (ALCATEL) sorry but we have an agreement with reseller (BIGPOND) that we don't give out any user-ini-files by ourselfs. When your ISP (BIGPOND) only alows bridging (FOR MAC USERS ONLY!!!) then I can't do anything."

Ziggy got quite worried, as a Mac user.

It appeared BOTH ALCATEL AND BIGPOND WERE BOTH APPARENTLY UNINTERESTED IN SUPPORTING APPLE MAC USERS REQUIRING A 4-PORT MODEM!!!!!!

What was Ziggy to do?

iwishihad, ponders more and tries some more help:
